New Styles from Merrell

merrell-logo

I love Merrell’s slogan, “Let’s Get Outside”.  Oh, how I would love to do just that! It has been cold and rainy in the Midwest for what seems like weeks.  Our cabin fever didn’t really start until now.  We have nice day teasers here and there but we’re still waiting for the warm weather to settle in for the season.  On a lighter note, it’s nice to see everything turning green again.

So, as we anticipate warmer weather and our chance to get back outside to explore, we look at shoes online.  Merrell has awesome new footwear available and I would very much like to show you a few of their new styles now.

First up, because I was sent a pair for review, are the Mezame Ballets:

I have had these shoes for about 3 or 4 weeks now and darn it if they aren’t my favorite pair of shoes!  Aside from the compliments I receive on them, they are very comfy.  They are part of Merrell’s Mezame collection, which have incorporated flippable footbeds.

The Mezame MJ is the other pair in the collection that I think are the bees knees:

The footbed has a smooth side for general exploring and after you’re on your feet for a while, flip the footbeds to the “nubby” side for a nice little foot massage.  Awww yeah, ladies. I’m telling you, Merrell doesn’t mess around.  They are pretty serious about shoes.

I asked the hubs to take a look at the new men’s arrivals and he’s digging the Primed Mocs:

Me too!  I think they’re pretty sweet.  He doesn’t have a pair, so I’m not sure how they fit but they look comfy.  Another pick of his are the Moab Waterproofs:

(Click the shoe to go to the product page)

Pretty cool.  I could see him hiking around in Montana with in these.  Are we going to Montana?  Hmm…

Children!  Don’t forget about the children!  Merrell has them covered, too.  One of the new kid’s styles that caught my eye are the Chameleon Arc Jump Junior’s:

Oh, the cute!  I almost can’t stand it.  Here are another pair that I like, the WaterPro Scout Juniors:

I can’t get enough of tiny feet.  A great feature of Merrell’s kid’s shoes is that they are adjustable and very durable.

There you have it.  Those are our picks.  I would highly recommend heading over to Merrell and let your feet feast upon comfort.

To Appliance Heaven and Back

kitchenaid_stand_mixer_heaven

I spent yesterday afternoon at the World of Whirlpool Blogger Lunch in Chicago.  I swoon over appliances and other miscellaneous household items, so this event was a good fit.

World of Whirlpool Blogger Lunch

I remember receiving a Clorox ReadyMop at my wedding shower in 2002.  As I squealed in delight, my girlfriends, who were nowhere near the marriage stage, flashed me this look of horror.  Like, “Oh my God, who IS this person!?”  I’m telling you, I became quite domesticated after saying yes to the dress.

But I digress.  Yesterday was heavenly.  If you have lived in appliance hell, like me, you might have experienced a sense of euphoria like I did in getting a first-hand look at the new Whirlpool digs in Chicago and some upcoming new appliance releases.

My appliance hell goes something like this: Five years ago, my over the range microwave stopped microwaving.  Microwaves are supposed to heat/cook things, right?  Right.  Mine didn’t anymore.  Not long after, our refrigerator started jumping up off of the floor.  I do not recall installing hydraulic lifts in said frig.  A new refrigerator was purchased but it’s nothing to write home about.  Then, seemingly weeks after, our washer and dryer craved some appliance technician attention.  We still can’t completely close the dryer door without it running…automatically.  None of these appliances were over eight years old and for the record, none of them were part of the Whirlpool brand family.

That being said, I’m always in the market for better appliances.  It was a treat to check out products from the various Whirlpool brands like, Maytag, Jenn-Air and KitchenAid.  The bloggers in attendance also got a lesson in kitchen and laundry science.  For instance, the quickest and newest (for the U.S.) cooking rage, Induction Cooktop cooking.

induction-cooking

It was nice to learn about the induction cooktop, as this type of appliance is something I have not personally considered.

After watching someone cook on it, it has become more appealing to me for several reasons.  Safety – the burners will not “heat up” until a pan is sitting on it (it looks for the pan).  No knobs – all controls are on the top and there is a lock.  It heats contents in the pan lightning fast – I watched 1 quart of water come to a rolling boil in under 2 minutes.  The induction cooktop also seems easy enough to clean.  My only con was possibly not having the right pans (they have to be of a magnetic material).  However, that concern was mostly put to rest for me.

I do not own an induction cooktop but I won’t hesitate giving it serious consideration when the time comes.  Also, I hear they’re all the rage in Europe.

Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away and oh yes, I have an appliance wish list.  Ok, I know it’s mostly wishful thinking but a girl can drool over appliances, right?  Right.  Here are the items that have made my list:

KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer in Empire Red (excuse me whilst I wipe the drool from the corners of my mouth)

kitchenaid-stand-mixer-red

My mom has an old stand mixer that she has always put to good use (I have fond memories of using it for Christmas cookie and birthday cake mixing) and for years, I have swooned over my mother-in-law’s KitchenAid Stand Mixer.  I, unfortunately, have never owned a stand mixer.  Oh, how I would love to fully embrace my inner baker! I could then use my KitchenAid Mixer Spatula and Recipe Collection that was gifted to me at the event.

One of these brand new KitchenAid Slow Cookers:

kitchenaid-slow-cooker

If I recall, they’re not even available in stores yet!  The one on the right is tantalizing. (Yeah, that’s right. I said tantalizing.  Have I not taught you anything about myself!?)  We have been using the same basic, run of the mill slow cooker for nine years.  Nuff said.

Now on to laundry.  I want, no wait, I need the Maytag Maxim washer and dryer in Crimson:

maytag-maxim

Let’s just stop for a moment and stare…

I can’t attest to how the washer and dryer actually perform but   a) they look pretty darn impressive and   b) they have to be one hundred times better than what I currently own.  Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this set was called the Maxim, no?

Thank you to everyone at the Chicago Whirlpool brands blogger lunch for the sneak peek of the new digs and some great new products.

I was given a tour of the Whirlpool office, fed a delectable lunch and received a gift bag upon departure. I was not compensated to attend or talk about this event or any of the products. I truly lust over them.  For real.

You can check out all of my photos from the World of Whirlpool event on Flickr.

Giveaway: Baby Einstein Discovery Kits

baby einstein

*Congratulations to our winner, comment entry number 36, Sharon!

We’ve got a nice little collection of what we call, “baby movies”. The collection started back in 2005 with our first daughter and the quantity of said baby movies has grown in size since our second daughter’s arrival in 2009.

In late 2010, The Baby Einstein Company released Baby Einstein Discovery Kits.  The Discovery Kits (MSRP $19.99) include a DVD, CD and cards or a book.  I say, more bang for your buck and more entertainment/play options for your little ones.  It’s nice to have the accompanying music and/or book in the car, especially when you can’t get a certain someone to chill out in the backseat (egh-hem…I’m not naming any names).

world of rhythm discovery kit

We were sent a free copy of the World of Rhythm Discovery Kit (released this past February).  This is one of the newest releases, geared toward toddlers.  Currently, there are nine different Discovery Kits and each kit falls under one of three levels; Level 1: Experience, Level 2: Explore, and Level 3: Expression.  As you can guess, the levels coincide with your baby’s age, from infant to toddler.

Both of my girls love watching World of Rhythm and one of the many reasons why would be because of the galloping horses.  My kids are obsessed with horses.  This particular kit is very fitting for us, since we’re always singing and dancing around the house…and galloping.

The Baby Einstein DVDs have a familiar theme and the kids really enjoy them.  We have owned Baby Einstein infant products for many years and their quality and craftsmanship has never disappointed me.

On behalf of LBi and the Baby Einstein program, we’re happy to give away one of the new Baby Einstein Discovery Kits to one of our readers.

To enter, leave a comment on this post and let us know which of the following three new Discovery Kits you would choose if you win:

Level 1: Experience – Baby Lullaby
Level 2: Explore – Neptune’s Oceans
Level 3: Expression – World of Rhythm
.
For a second entry, go to Facebook and “Like” the Baby Einstein Fan Page, so you can be kept current on new releases.  Come back to this post and leave another comment letting us know you “Like Baby Einstein on FB”.

If you already “Like” Baby Einstein on Facebook, then you can consider “Liking” our ParentSphere Fan Page and/or Tweeting about this giveaway.

Deadline to enter is Monday, May 2nd.  A winner will be chosen at random and contacted via email.  Good luck!

A World of Happiness for Autism

a world of happiness

I’ve been in on a little secret about a cool project for a while and now that the secret’s out, I’m all smiles.  Ok, maybe it really wasn’t a secret but I can pretend!  You know me, I always want to be in-the-know.  My favorite thing to do is spread the good word.

Here’s the good word about A World of Happiness for Autism – the phenomenal track that includes a dozen or so amazing kindie/children/kids & family musicians is out and available on iTunes for $1.29.

Here is the important, do-good-er stuff.  That $1.29 you’re spending goes directly to the Autism Speaks organization.  We recently had a poll at KindieCast so people like you could help decide which charity would get the proceeds from the song.  Getting something for giving something is grand; You support a cause and get a fantastic tune in return.  #WIN!

The individuals with the vision for The Happiness Project are Tor Hyams and Joanie Leeds.  I have had the pleasure of working with both of them and creating this video with the footage they provided to me.  This quick video gives you a sneak peek at some of the artists on the track during their recording sessions and their take on The Happiness Project.  Take a look:

Download A World of Happiness for Autism here.

This is my favorite part. I am GIFTING the track to the first ten people that comment on this post. *Please remember that you will need to have iTunes installed on your computer to redeem your gift code and to be able to listen to the song. I am thrilled to donate to Autism Speaks in this fashion during Autism Awareness Month.

Once I have received the first ten comments, I will email the gift code for the A World of Happiness for Autism single.

A big thank you goes out to Tor, Joanie and all of the artists who were involved in The Happiness Project.

It’s good stuff, people.

Giveaway: Monday Is One Day

Monday Is One Day

The hardest part of going to work is being apart from you.”

I remember once upon a time when I went back to work and left my then 2-1/2 year old at a daycare.  She was my only child at the time and I can remember feeling an emptiness in my heart as I drove away without her.  It wasn’t long until I found myself working from home, so I could be the one teaching and nurturing her.  However, my husband has been working outside of the home since before our two daughters were born.  Each evening when we hear the garage door open, the girls exclaim, “Daddy’s home!  Daddy’s home!” and then they run in circles near the top of the stairs, waiting for him to appear around the corner.  After being without them all day, I’m know that makes his heart swell with happiness.

Monday Is One Day

Monday Is One Day is a sweet and simple book that keeps in mind those of us who are away from our little humans for any length of time. The book focuses on the idea of doing something special each day to help each other pass the time that is spent apart.  Families of all shapes and sizes can relate to this story.

We are giving away three (3) hardcover copies of Monday Is One Day (MSRP $16.99) to three (3) of our readers.  To enter, please leave a comment on this post.  If you have a special routine with your little one when you leave for the day, feel free to let us know in your entry comment.  Otherwise, any comment will do.  Three winners will be chosen at random and the giveaway ends on Friday, 4/22.

Ways to Help End Child Hunger in America

child hunger ends here

17.2 million children in the United States don’t get enough food to live active, healthful lives – that’s one in four kids who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. That’s why ConAgra Foods is encouraging people across the country to rally together to help end child hunger in our communities.

I recently shared with you how you can play a part in ending child hunger just by grocery shopping.  After purchasing the specially marked packages of ConAgra Food brands and entering the code online at www.childhungerendshere.com, you have helped!  Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

A monetary donation will be made enabling one meal to be secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks, up to a maximum of 2.5 million meals for codes entered through 8/31/11. Valid in US only. $1 donated = 7 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks.

While I think that grocery shopping is an excellent way to feed your own family and give back, it isn’t the only way to show your support for this critical cause.

You can also Text to Donate.  Simply text “FEEDKIDS” to 50555 to make a $10 donation directly to Feeding America through June 30, 2011.  That is also quite easy.

Get involved locally. You can call or visit your local Food Bank to find out how you can help people in your neighborhood.  This is a GREAT idea for teens and young adults.  There is so much even young people can do to get involved and help raise awareness about child hunger.  Volunteering is an excellent way to show your support.

One other thing you can do is help Spread the Word – Maybe you’re not able to participate in a monetary fashion and that’s ok!  You can still let others know about this great cause and maybe they can help by donating or spreading the word.  That is what matters the most.  You can get more information on the child hunger issue by following ConAgra Foods on Facebook and Twitter.  Between these two social media outlets, you will see how your donations are making a difference.  You can even share your own photos and stories there.

These are just a few ideas.  I have recently reached out to my local Food Bank about ways I can get involved and look forward to sharing the information with you.  I would love to hear your thoughts!  What have you done or have organizations done in your area?

*I am being compensated as an active blogger correspondent for ConAgra’s Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.  Any opinions and experiences shared here are my own.  I am honored to play an integral part in this initiative!
