Let’s talk about the elephant in the room…the devious PEN THIEF!

paper_mate_inkjoy_pens

Admittedly, I try not to walk off with anyone else’s pens but if I’m being honest, it’s bound to happen.  I mean, I like pens as much as the next guy.  But I know how it feels to be victimized by a pen thief.  I’m careful about where I keep my favorite pens.  Oh yes, I have favorites…and I hide them.

So, I’m talking about pens because, well, I’m back to work and I do more than just type on a computer keyboard.  I do a lot of writing.  It’s the craziest thing how a pen can make all the difference in one’s penmanship.  It’s also crazy how, when one really likes his or her pen, they go to extremes to keep the thieves away.

inkjoy_pen_thief

*No one actually got their hand slapped in the above attempt at pen-thievery.  It was just a demonstration of what could happen in the event of an attempted pen snatching.

But I digress.  I’m referring specifically to Paper Mate’s new InkJoy pens (deemed “World’s Most Stolen Pen”).  They sent a pack of them to me in this cool, fingerprint storage safe.  This is serious business, people.  I have Pen Theft Prevention posters and decals  readily available to display in my office.  Sure, the company where I work has a staff of four others who might think I’m a little nuts but, as I said, this is serious.  Actually, I was really nice and gave each of my coworkers an Inkjoy pen.  See, we all have a different “color” we use to identify our work.  So, it works out quite well.  If anyone’s pen goes missing, we know immediately who has swiped it.

wanted-poster

That’s Jack.  He steals dirty facial tissue, paper clips and the stray staple.  You can report someone (or some animal) for stealing your pen at Paper Mate’s Facebook Page for a chance to win $2,500.  Guess how many InkJoy pens you could buy with your winnings!?

Bottom line is, Paper Mate’s Inkjoy pens are brand new and they write very smoothly (think gel) without smudging.  I like them.  My coworkers like them, too.  Check ‘em out next time you’re in the market for new pens.

The tag*a*long. Now I don’t mind if they do.

tag-a-long-teagan

Earlier this Fall (is it still Fall?), I was sent the tag*a*long.  I was excited to check it out because I have one, usually two, tag-along’s. Seems like I’m always trying to round up one or the other…or both.  The older one is bouncing off of me and we’re tripping over each other because she’s walking too close to the stroller, or the little one doesn’t want to sit in the stroller and I can’t keep her close enough when she’s out of it.

This unique stroller add-on has actually been a big help.  Not just when we’re out with the stroller, but also when we’re at the grocery store, attached to the shopping cart. There are many handy uses for this product and we’re discovering them along the way.

It is easy to attach to things.  The tag*a*long, which is lead and BPA free (and meets CPSIA standards), has loops at both ends.  Just wrap one end through the other around the stroller’s frame and voila!  You have a magic handle that extends about arms-length and allows just enough distance between you.  Less bumping.  Less tripping.  Less wandering away.  Awesome.

Both my big girl and my little girl are making good use of the tag*a*long and we, the parents, are now believers.

1-2-3 Shoe Buddies

123_shoe_buddies

We were sent a set of Shoe Buddies to check out right before the 6 year old started kindergarten.  It just so happens that a family member gifted our little school girl with a brand new pair of Skechers Twinkle Toes.  The lace-up kind.  Oof!  Ok, I thought.  Now is as good a time as any to teach her how to tie her shoelaces.

It was a great thought.  It really was.

I just didn’t realize how time-consuming it would be in the mornings and how difficult a time she would have during the day at school after taking them off and putting them back on.  Sure, kids learn how to tie shoelaces and that’s great.  I encourage it. However, I don’t find anything wrong with having a little help when they’re just starting out.

Cue 1-2-3 Shoe Buddies.  Once I “installed” the system onto her laced sneakers, I was able to finish packing her lunch while she got her shoes on just in time to make it to the bus stop.  It’s quick and easy for her, all she has to do is loosen the Shoe Buddy, slip her foot into her shoe, pull her laces tight again and slide the Shoe Buddy up into place.  She feels pretty cool being able to do that all by herself.

Shoe Buddies are available in ten or so different styles.  They would make a great stocking stuffer for a toddler, as their price point is around $6.  A suggestion for the company…offer customization!  Customized Shoe Buddies would rock.  Just sayin’.

Amy Michelle go Totes

I have been sporting my Amy Michelle Madison Avenue Tote for the past couple of years.  It is my favorite tote bag.  I still use it, even though I don’t have a mass of baby items to bring with me.  It most definitely has a multifunctional look and feel to it.  I sometimes put my laptop in it and quite often, it is used as an overnight bag for my girls when they visit their grandparents.

I was able to get a first-hand look at the newest Amy Michelle styles (available soon!) last week at the ABC Kids Expo in Louisville, KY.  Here is a sneak peek, just for you!

I highly recommend Amy Michelle totes. Great quality and very fashionable.

Giveaway: Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat Cover

bumbo_seat_covers

I first learned about Bumbo seats in 2006, after my first daughter was born.  I originally purchased the seat because she spit-up all of the time and I thought it would help her with digestion.  I honestly can’t remember if the seat really helped her or not, but it was nice to have her sitting up instead of laying down and spitting up.  I always worried about that.

The photos above were taken before Bumbo seat covers were available on the market.  Even though our kids have outgrown their Bumbo seats, I’m so glad the seat covers are available!

We held on to our last Bumbo, the pink one, for future babies in the family.  Turns out the next baby using said Bumbo is a boy.  Sure, it’s not a huge deal that the Bumbo is pink but we love having the option of having him sit in a more “masculine” Bumbo seat.  That being said, we now have the chocolate baby seat cover, courtesy of Keen Distribution:

bumbo_seat_cover_chocolate

The Bumbo seat covers are available in various solid colors as well as attractive patterns.  As you can see from the above picture, the play tray still attaches to the seat even with the cover in place.  The covers vary in price anywhere from $15-$18, depending on where you purchase.  Here is a list of retailers that carry Keen products.

Do you own a Bumbo or know someone who does?  We have a Bumbo Baby Seat Cover in Chocolate up for grabs (not the actual Bumbo sitter).  Just leave a comment on this post if you wish to enter.  The entry deadline is this Friday, 8/26 at midnight.  A winner will be chosen at random and contacted via email.  Giveaway open to residents within the continental U.S. only.

*Update: Congratulations to our winner, Brooke!

Hearing protection for the kids – Baby Banz Earmuffs

baby-banz-ear-muffs

We’ve taken our oldest daughter to a dozen or so concerts, two of which were Lollapalooza.  As you may or may not know, I do some social media work for Kidzapalooza, the family stage at Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival.  I noticed at the festival last year that some of the kids had headphones on and I made a mental note to get some for my kids, since we love taking our girls to places like Ravinia, Schubas and The Beat Kitchen for their family-friendly concert series.

I made my mental note and immediately thought of Baby Banz.  The have great sun-protection products for kids, including; sunglasses, goggles, hats, etc.  I was stoked when they added the Banz Ear Muffs to their product line.  Anyone who enjoys going to things like, fireworks, races, concerts, movies, etc. with their kids should consider getting these noise-reduction headphones.  Our kids recently used them at a concert…

…and at our local fireworks display this past July 4th

teagan_banz_earmuffs

The 2 year old sometimes wears them around the house and magically, she quiets down.  I kind of dig that about these headphones.  I’ve tried them on to see how my hearing was affected and they definitely reduce noise but not to the point where when wearing them, you cannot hear.  So, your children will still be able to hear you talking to them (even if they claim they can’t).  The background noise is reduced making the environment much more comfortable for their little ears.

WIN IT!

We have a pair of Baby Banz Ear Muffs up for grabs.  To enter, leave a comment on this post.  We’d love to hear what music festivals you’ve been to, even if it’s just a small fair in your home town.  What do you love most about outdoor concerts?  Maybe you haven’t been to one yet, which one(s) would you like to attend?
