Britax Blink Stroller: let the traveling season begin!

blink stroller Britax Blink Stroller: let the traveling season begin!

Congratulations to our winner, commenter number 40 – Elliot M.!

The nice weather is here (for the most part) and we’re ready to get out of the house.  Our Britax Blink stroller arrived just in time.  The stroller was sent to us from Britax for review.

Upon arrival, there was some assembly required.  I snapped on the front wheels, the canopy and the two hinge covers (from the remedy kit provided by Britax due to a voluntary recall) and ladies and gentleman, we’re in business.

I took some time to review the stroller’s User Guide to familiarize myself with the strollers features and operating instructions.  Aside from the superb quality, Britax products are easy to use.  I feel confident enough about Britax to say that you are pretty much guaranteed excellence, so don’t even hesitate if you’re thinking about purchasing anything from this brand.

Now, back to the Blink.

The Blink is currently available in five contemporary patterns.  We have the Double Dots fabric and I must say, my nine month old looks pretty adorable sitting in it:

IMG 2579 202x300 Britax Blink Stroller: let the traveling season begin!

blink patterns Britax Blink Stroller: let the traveling season begin!

This stroller is compared to umbrella strollers due to it’s light weight (16 lbs.) and compact features.  It is suited for your 6 month old up to kids weighing 55 lbs. (my 4-1/2 year old can ride in it).

The ride is smooth (suspension in a lightweight, umbrella-like stroller, people!).  Pushing the stroller is a breeze and the foam grip handles make it even more comfortable.  The ease of steering is phenomenal (front wheels swivel).  There is a storage pack in the back of the stroller and basket underneath (big enough to fit my Bumble Bag).

We put the Blink to the test yesterday by taking the nine month old on a three hour shopping trip.  Not one complaint.  She laid back, did some people watching, and kicked her leg around off the side of the leg rest.  Today, we took a walk through the neighborhood and once again, she enjoyed the comfortable ride.

The Blink is compact and super portable, with a shoulder strap attached and it’s own storage case with two straps (hand and shoulder strap).

You can check out all of Blink’s features on the Britax site.

What you need to know is that right now, the Blink is on sale for $99 until supplies run out and the 2010 models are available. (MSRP $149.99)

Have I convinced you enough to consider getting one?  I hope so.  I can confidently tell you that you won’t regret it.

I try to schedule flights for naptime. Some people have that backfire, but I’ve been lucky so far. I also talked my 2 year old son’s ears off about drinking if his ears hurt on an airplane. He was so conditioned (brainwashed?) by the time the plane took off that he drank water without complaint. I will soon begin having that talk with my 1 year old.

Thanks for the giveaway – the stroller looks great.

I always bring a back carrier and my ring sling. I put my little guy on my back to get through security (they don’t make me take him out because it has no metal on it) and to the gate. Then I use the ring sling for getting on the plane and nursing during take off and landing (gives a little more security and privacy. We usually bring a stroller too so this one would be great. Our other is on it’s last leg. :)

packing for the childs trip is very important, you’ll find that the wants and needs lists for little kids may actually be only one list. The trick is to consider what’s needed for keeping little ones content and you’ll soon realize that a lot of wants like toys and treats, really are “needs” for a long trip

I always pack light but make sure to have all my neccesities (based on your experience) but one thing I never leave home without is snacks, never go out without some snack in your purse, trust me.

Our son is too big for our umbrella stroller–the wheels won’t turn–but we need something lightweight. This stroller looks awesome and I love the 55 lb weight limit.

I have to agree with the other comments. I always found that taking lots of snacks really, really helps. Whether it’s a long car ride or a trip to Target. I’m known to open a bag of Natural Cheetos or cereal at the store and let my kids nosh (I pay for them, honestly!)

Also, books and toys are a must. On a long car trip I always put a bunch of board books and small toys within reach.

When we drove from Illinois to Vermont and back, I gave each kid a travel Doodle Pro. They loved drawing on them. But here’s my tip: make sure they match, otherwise it’s inevitable that one child will want the one the other has!

And maybe my best tip for the littlest ones: We had a back of the seat mirror for the car that had a remote and played music. My guy loved that when he was little. And if he fell asleep, I could turn it off easily.

I always bring a baby carrier with me when i travel. The worst thing to do when your traveling and going to all these places to sight-see, is having to unpack and set up the stroller, then having to load it back into the car. Nothing beats just getting out of the car and putting your baby in the carrier and GOING!

Well, you’ve already got it taken care of, but I like to use an umbrella stroller when traveling by plane. It’s small enough that you can maneuver through all of the people and lines quickly and is easy to fold up and be stored at the gate check. The Blink looks like an awesome umbrella stroller and I love that it has a 55 lb. weight limit!

Plenty diapers, snacks, wipes, and toys. I always have an extra outfit, one time I left house without she had a diaper accident and I had to make a stop to buy a new one. Food is our must have in my purse/ diaper bag, it keeps her the most happy :)

Traveling with kids…..on a plane pack some “new to them toys” . I always go to the thrift store and grab a bunch of fun toys and books. Also, if they get left behind at least they didn’t cost a fortune!
Always pack some pain/fever medicine and a few bandaids. Nobody wants to be running around a strange new place all panicky with a sickie kiddie looking for a drugstore!

  79. 79
    Kristen says:

I traveld with my baby every month for the past 5 months. I thought I was going to die, carrying everything. I made sure the flights were at night, so she would sleep through them. Gave her motrin for her ears a head of time, because she screamed her head off and annoyed everyone on the plane during take off and landing. Its also important to keep them happy so I let her use my itouch, and other toys as well untill she fell asleep. As for a stroller, make sure its sturdy(mine was a piece of crap) and I am 6’1, so this Britax Blink looks like it will make airport travel easy and will not kill my back! We are on a plane again in May!

My top tip for traveling with an infant – especially flying – have a wrap! My wrap enables me to have my infant strapped to me (required during takeoff and landing), AS WELL AS he can have breast during those times his little ears need to equalise… AND, for those people concerned about modesty, no one can tell! (not that I care tho. LOL)

Top tip for traveling with any child over 1 – GET A DVD PLAYER. whether you’re driving, flying, whatEVER – our dvd player has been INVALUABLE – BEST $100 we’ve EVER spent. We moved our family from Melbourne Aus, to small town, Canada, and the resulting roadtrips after to go back to Vancouver to pick up our shipment (all our stuff), visit family in other areas of the province, etc could NOT have been survived without our DVD player. And I might add that this works so well for us because TV is VERY VERY limited in our house – makes it a MAJOR treat during road trips!

And always important – lots of water, and snackies, like so many have already said (especially if you have picky eaters and you’re flying).

Traveling tip — Don’t leave home without a Moby wrap! Sometimes the only thing that will keep the baby happy is to be held, and the Moby lets you “hold” the baby without breaking your arms or back, and you still have two arms. Plus, the Moby can be easily stored in a bag or purse and it doesn’t take up all the space in your luggage. It can be a lifesaver for parents and babies!

Put anything that might leak in a plastic baggie. We always put the baby’s soap/lotions/diaper rash cream/etc. in plastic baggies so that if they leak, they leak into the baggie, and not all over everything in the bag. You never know when your bag will get squished and the last thing you need when traveling is a mess inside your bag! The freezer ziplock-type baggies work great for this because they’re thicker and sturdier than the storage bags.

My best advice for air travel with an infant is to breastfeed on takeoff and landing to decrease ear pressure. Other than that, take along patience and allow yourself plenty of time, no matter what your travel plans are. Expect that everything will take longer than you think, and just roll with it.

We’re flying this summer, too, so I’ll wish us both luck! :)

It has been many years since I have traveled with an infant, but unless you are going to someplace that absolutely has no stores, remember that you don’t really have to take all of the ‘consumables’ with you. That should allow you to estimate the amount of snacks, diapers, wipes, etc., you need for the travel portion itself while expecting to replenish when you reach your destination. If the child has a favorite toy/blanket/whatever, that is important to take along. This is NOT the time to try to break the habit.

This is a given but always bring extra clothes in the carry on. I have had to buy a shirt in the airport bc it got wet

My best travel tip is to pack a separate backpack or messenger bag for each child.
Inside each put things that they enjoy or bring comfort to them. A favorite game, stuffed animal, coloring books and crayons etc.
Also include their favorite healthy snacks and juice box drinks. and perhaps a snuggly blanket and travel pillow.
This makes traveling much easier for them and you.
Thank you so much for the chance to win.

I found that when I traveled with my daughter it was best to pack light for plane trips, and then buy formula and diapers once we got to the destination. Her stuff alone would have taken up an extra suitcase!

    Ashlee says:

My traveling has slowed down considerably since my son has grown but when he was an infant we traveled a lot! I’d tried to coordinate trips (especially flying) with times I knew he’d need to rest. In the event he wouldn’t zonk out I was sure to bring along lots of books, snacks, toys and things to keep him busy. I always packed a small bag with new things and a few old favorites to keep his interest!

Happy travels Amy! and thanks for this post. I’m in the market for a new stroller massively! I haven’t had one since Xavy outgrew the sling and I neeed one! :)

Traveling with kids is never easy but there are a few things that can make it so smoother. One small trick was to carry quite a few ziploc bags to store all the messes my daughter made on long trips.
One thing that I found very useful on long overnight flights was the baby bassinet that airplanes have. We used them twice, and although the quality and guidelines varies from company to company, both times was a lifesaver when my daughter was still young enough to fit in one.

    Jennifer W. says:

I’ve flown twice with my daughter, who is now 18 months. The first time she was 3 months old and the second time she was 8 months. Both times we traveled alone, and my advice is, even though kids under 2 fly free on their parents lap…purchase a seat. I didn’t, but was lucky enough to have the seat next to me vacant on all parts of both of my journeys. I couldn’t imagine having a stranger squished next to me while I’m holding an infant trying to get something out of the diaper bag!!

For planes, bring a bottle/pacifier or breastfeed on takeoff and landing to help baby’s ears adjust. Otherwise baby will be screaming because of the pressure change (and all the people near you will be screaming at you!)

My best advice is to get on the plane as early as possible. You want to be able to get yourself situated with all the essentials before take off. Snacks and drinks are a great distraction for a crabby baby, but be sure it you’re bringing milk or juice to have a small sealed container (some airports enforce the no open containers policy harder than others) when you’re boarding the plane and a empty bottle or sippy cup to pour it into once you get on the plane.

Best advice is to pack everything you can the day/night before. That way you are less likely to forget the items you need the most. I know that I tend to forget a LOT when I try to pack up things right before leaving. Bringing a carrier also helps because you do not have to lug around and store a stroller. I think that purchasing an extra seat next to you is a great idea.
