National Geographic Kids Almanac 2010

2010Almanac National Geographic Kids Almanac 2010

National Geographic is a name that I’ve known and trusted since I was kid. We always turned to our National Geographic magazines for school projects. I have done much research and have cut out many animals from these publications.  It was always so cool to me to have access to information about other places, people and animals, among other things, right at my finger tips.

That being said, when I learned about the release of the Nat Geo Kids Almanac 2010, I was pretty ecstatic.  I have a very curious preschooler and instantly knew this would make a great addition to her bookshelf.

This hard cover almanac is vibrant and full of facts and photos of far off lands and of things right in our own backyard.  It is history and present-day information at our finger tips.  I’m fixing to sit and read this almanac from cover to cover with my preschooler.  There are so many things to explore and this almanac provides a kid-friendly way to do it.

We are taking a family vacation to The Dominican Republic in just over three months and have spent some time explaining to our four year old that we’ll be traveling to another country.  I was able to refer to our Nat Geo Kids Almanac to point out to her where exactly The Dominican Republic is located and talk to her a little bit about the geography of the country.

This almanac is chalk-full of details about planets, all the way down to what happens inside of the earth.

Totally loving this book and highly recommending you pick up a copy of it.

National Geographic Kids has teamed up with New Media Strategies to give away one (1) copy of their 2010 Kids Almanac to one ParentSphere reader (MSRP $19.95).

I remember us getting the magazines and my dad would edit them from the guys for dirty pics- ok fine, but then when we looked at them we could not crease the cover, or bend it or ruin the spine becuase they were collectible- but the most amazing part was looking at the other countries and other cultures and dreaming about living in other places with a different dad….btw he never sold the magazines that were so valueable- he tossed them when he moved- did not even donate- so let your kids enjoy a book- yep its noce to care about things but when it becomes obseessive some just do not touch and do not look and use and then whats the point

When I was little, we had a library table with a globe and atlases on top, and National Geographics all along the front and back shelves, with the back shelf against the wall containing the magazines with white covers and hand-tinted pictures. I used to lie on the floor under the table and read for hours and hours on end. My mother, being wise, never discouraged me.

As an adult, I have inherited that table. I was the only one who really cared about it, anyhow. It has all my geography related books in it, and atlases on top. On top, it will have a good globe (I’m still trying to decide which one(s) I want), and eventually, an orrery. Every child I know will have free access to those shelves, as I had to them as a child.

I’ve bought “The National Georgraphic for Kids” for several years for my grandson and I love it almost as much as he does! Since his subscription began, the magazine has enriched his learning experience and filled in areas of information that he needs, plus encouraged him to read far beyond his grade level. I am very enthusiastic about the magazine, and I think it is a wonderful addition to his formal education.
